About Ila

Strategy starts with perspective.

Ila Bialystok

With 25 years in and around the high-tech industry, I've had a front-row seat to what separates companies that lead their markets from those that compete in them.

The difference is almost never the product. It's the ability to zoom out far enough to see a radically different opportunity, and the courage to play bigger than what feels comfortable.

My role is to create the conditions for that shift to happen: for your team to see what's possible, align around it and build a strategy to claim it. The insight, the ambition and the impact are always yours.

Fluent in strategy, narrative and the organizational dynamics that make both work

Everything we build together is practical, clear and immediately executable

Inspiration

Curiosity is where it starts.

I find inspiration everywhere. Something catches my attention, curiosity takes over and I start exploring. One idea connects to another, a different perspective emerges, and that's often where the most interesting thinking begins.

These are a few of the ideas that have stayed with me.

Book

Play Bigger

Al Ramadan, Dave Peterson, Christopher Lochhead & Kevin Maney

Play Bigger introduced the concept of category design and the idea that companies can shape markets rather than simply compete within them. Based on research into hundreds of companies that created category leadership, it gave a framework and a name to much of what I had been doing instinctively. It sharpened my understanding of why this approach works and gave me a language to express it. It became a foundation I've continued to build on.

Book

Breaking Patterns

Mike Maples Jr.

Breaking Patterns explores the inflection points that create the conditions for something new to emerge. Maples examines how shifts in technology, markets and human behavior open windows of opportunity and how the right insight at the right moment can unlock entirely new possibilities.

Book

Leading for Growth

Raymond P. Davis (CEO, Umpqua Bank)

Leading for Growth explores how Ray Davis transformed Umpqua Bank by looking beyond traditional banking to imagine what a bank could become. By drawing inspiration from unexpected places and challenging assumptions about what banking could be, Davis created a differentiated experience and a new way of thinking about the category. It is a reminder that new opportunities often emerge when leaders look beyond the boundaries of the existing game.

Podcast

Acquired

Man's Search for Meaning

Viktor Frankl

From a different angle, Man's Search for Meaning explores one of the most fundamental human questions: what gives life meaning. Written from the most extreme human circumstances imaginable, Frankl's work shows the power of purpose, resilience and the search for something greater than ourselves. It is a powerful reminder that the most meaningful journeys, including those of companies and founders, begin with a clear sense of why they exist and the impact they seek to create.

What am I missing? I'm always looking for the next idea worth exploring.
